When you want to know who in the Library to refer the patron to for more help on a topic, you can try the following:

For campus services and people outside of the Library who can help:

  • Check in our FAQs (Staff | Public both linked on the Information Desk Resource Page) to see whether there are any entries about the topic.
  • Use the Search feature (upper left corner) of the University website for keywords related to the service.
  • Search Reflib emails to see who we might have referred people to in the past, or whether there is a saved announcement about a service here in the Library (such as Tech Services students and CITL consultants available in 220).

If the patron is asking for help with a specific database and you don’t know who to refer them to (or just asking whether we have that database), try:

  • The A-Z Databases list, looking under the All Subjects menu to see which subject(s) the database has been assigned to, and then referring the patron to the unit(s) for additional help.
  • LibGuides again, and referring the patron to the unit that made the guide.
  • The Library catalog, seeing whether the subject headings and description can provide any clues as to which unit(s) manage the database.
