If you are trying to access your account to view your physical materials request, loans, or renew loanable material contact Central Access Services for further assistance. Here is Central Access Services FAQ to explore if you have further questions about our physical materials.

*Please note* - an active i-card is NOT needed to access the Library's subscription e-resources (online databases, ebooks, streaming audio and video, etc.).

  • Only a NetID and password are needed to log in when accessing subscription e-resources from Library webpages.
  • Avoid clicking on the My Account button and Sign in links.  Instead, click on the name of the resource to prompt a login page, if not already logged in.

Library account access is only needed to: request books and other loanable items from the University of Illinois catalog and I-Share, view and renew physical items checked out, save materials to favorites, run saved searches, and view fines/blocks, etc.

New students and staff who have not yet received an i-card/Library barcode number won't be able to log into their Library account. After you receive your i-card, it may take a few days for your information to be uploaded into the Library's systems. If you need to use Library services sooner than that, contact Central Access Services for assistance.

How to obtain an i-card/library barcode number

NEW STUDENTS

On campus

Visit/contact the Urbana ID Center.

In an online degree program

Students who are in an online degree program (fully online programs such as the iMBA) can request a photoless i-card through the form provided by CITL. Students will receive a Library barcode number printed on an i-card.

Not in an online degree program

Online students who are not part of a fully online degree program can request a Library barcode by emailing the ID Center at idcenter@illinois.edu. Students must send the email to the ID Center from their illinois.edu account and include their UIN. The ID Center staff will generate a Library barcode number and email it to the student. This information is provided on the Get an i-card page.

NEW STAFF

On campus

Visit/contact the Urbana ID Center.

Off campus

Ask your department supervisor to email idcenter@illinois.edu and request a photoless i-card. The ID Center will send the i-card to the campus address of the requesting department, and the department will mail the i-card to the staff person.
