If you know the place and date of death, then we can help you find a newspaper that might have published the obituary you are seeking. If we have that newspaper in our collection here at the University of Illinois, then we will do an obituary lookup as time permits. If we find the obituary, then we will send you a PDF scan of the obituary. There is no fee for this service.

Sometimes we are able to respond to obituary lookup requests very quickly, but at other times of the school year (e.g. when there is greater demand for our services from students and faculty of the University), then it can take up to a week before we are able to respond. We do our best to assist all patrons, and we appreciate your patience!

To initiate a request for an obituary lookup, please email us at: hpnl@library.illinois.edu, or call us at (217) 333-1509.
